DLL

A dynamic-link library is Microsoft's implementation of the shared library concept in the Microsoft Windows operating systems. DLLs can contain code, data, and resources, in any combination.

EMV

EMV is a standard for interoperation of IC cards ("Chip cards") and IC capable POS terminals and ATM's, for authenticating credit and debit card payments.

The name EMV comes from the initial letters of Europay, MasterCard and VISA, the three companies which originally cooperated to develop the standard. Europay International SA was absorbed into MasterCard in 2002. JCB (formerly Japan Credit Bureau) joined the organisation in December 2004, and American Express joined in February 2009 IC card systems. The French Carte Bancaire also uses the EMV standard.

External pay unit

Pay units that are supported by a plug-in interface in the CWT software. The external pay units are normally not delivered as a standard terminal component.

Internal pay unit

Pay units that are supported without any plug-ins in the CWT software. The internal pay units are delivered as standard terminal components.

Screen

In CWT 21XX and CWT Compact terminals, the term screen includes both the physical TFT/LCD display and the associated keypad or soft buttons, all being part of the user interface.

The term screen is not used with CWT 104 and CWT Compact Classic   because they only have a display without any soft buttons.

Step selection

Selection of amount or time by stepping through a number of fixed values using the value buttons.

STN, Stn

Super-Twisted Nematic display, a type of monochrome passive matrix liquid crystal display. The STN display used in CWT Compact, CWT 2110, CWT 2115, CWT 104 and CWT Compact Classic is, in fact, an FSTN display which is a Film compensated STN type display. This is a passive matrix LCD technology that uses a film compensating layer between the STN display and the rear polarizer for added sharpness.

TFT

Thin Film Transistor liquid crystal display is a variant of liquid crystal display (LCD) which uses thin-film transistor technology to improve image quality, for example, addressability and contrast. The TFT display is used in CWT 2120 and in the CWT Compact
